About
Charlotte Born & Brewed Est. 2009
At OMB, our unwavering commitment to fresh, pure, premium-quality beer isn’t just a slogan. It’s an integral part of who we are.
We strictly follow the world’s oldest beer purity law, the renowned German “Reinheitsgebot,” which states that beer should only contain four ingredients: water, malt, hops, and yeast. Our brewing practice never compromises on quality, forgoing cheap ingredients, artificial flavors, and added colors. If you want to brew world-class beer, you’ve got to use the best ingredients and sweat the details. We never let cost or speed get in the way of excellence.
Our mission is to bring the Carolinas the freshest beer possible. We may be perfectionists, but when you taste our beer, we think you’ll agree that it’s totally worth it. Prost!
Our History
2007:
While traveling cross-country, founder John Marrino realizes Charlotte is the largest city in the US without a brewery. He decides to open one and brew German-style beer.
Early 2008:
John, along with friends, started brewing test batches at the small development facility OMB leased in the Atlantic Business Center on Chastain Avenue. Later that year, OMB was incorporated. John signs the lease and begins constructing the original brewery at 215 Southside Drive.
March 2009:
OMB opens to the public on Southside Drive and first debuts Copper. All beer is served on draft only, and growlers to-go. Self-distribution of kegs to Charlotte area bars and restaurants begins.
2010:
OMB signs Comer Distributing Company to sell OMB beer in the South Carolina markets of Rock Hill, Fort Mill, Columbia, and Aiken.
2012:
Facing strong growth and running out of production capacity on Southside Drive, OMB decides to purchase the 4150 Yancey Road property (current location) and build a world-class, state-of-the-art 60-barrel production brewery, as well as a full-service Bierhall/restaurant and an authentic Munich-style biergarten on the site.
August 2014:
The Brewery, restaurant, and Biergarten at 4150 officially opens to the public.
Spring 2015:
OMB adds the "Bierhut" to the Biergarten so that it can serve beer more effectively to the large crowds.
Fall 2015
OMB adds an additional fermentation tank room onto the back of the brewery to increase production capacity to 12,000 barrels annually.
Feb 2017:
OMB acquires 24 acres of property in Cornelius as part of a long-term plan to serve the outer markets in the Charlotte region with additional Biergarten/restaurants.
2018:
OMB expands the Bierhut and adds the Garten Grill to the Biergarten on Yancey Road.
2020:
OMB wins an unprecedented second gold medal for its Mecktoberfest Marzen Lager at the prestigious European Beer Star "World Championship of Beers."
2020:
OMB expands distribution in North Carolina by partnering with Adams, Standard, and RH Barringer to distribute OMB products from western North Carolina to Wilmington.
2021:
OMB acquires property in Mount Holly overlooking the Catawba River and negotiates an agreement to build a Brauhaus and Biergarten to anchor the Bowl development in Ballantyne.
2022:
OMB gains statewide distribution.
2024
OMB officially opens its second location in Ballantyne at The Bowl.
